CHAPTER 2 While Lindbergh and his Republican allies have taken over the white house, Alvin decides to go become a part of World War II. He signs up for the Canadian army to fight Hitler. While Herman rejects Alivin being in the war, Alvin says how he would be much better off fighting than being in a country with a fascist- like president. Shortly after Alvin leaves for Canada, the rest of the Roth family takes a trip to Washington D.C. W
hen the Roth family arrives in Washington D.C. they meet their tour guide, Mr. Taylor. Mr. Taylor tours them around Washington D.C. telling them about stuff whether it was about the Lincoln Memorial to Washington D.C. at night. When the family goes to the Lincoln Memorial, Mr. Taylor tours them around when Herman goes and looks at the tablet bearing the Gettysburg Address. There he says "All men are created equal." After going to the Lincoln Memorial, the family goes to the Douglas Hotel. Once heading inside, the manager says that the rooms they booked months earlier have been taken by another family. Herman argues and demands to have back those rooms. The manager calls the police and once the police arrive, they settle the dispute in the manager's favor. Herman then calls them fascists and the Roth family goes to the Evergreen hotel. The family then tours around the next day and tour places such as the Supreme court. Afterwards, they go to the cafe where Herman starts saying how Lindbergh is heading the nation into trouble. A man with a President Taft-like mustashe comes and claims that Lindbergh is heading the nation in the right direction. Herman then calls him a fascist and they wrestle. The wrestling stops once the cafe manager steps in and offers the Roths more food. The wrestling and the hotel incidents prove that now America is becoming more and more fascist one day at a time.
